On December 23, 2006, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Charleston District (Corps) issued a Public Notice (click here to view) advertising an extension to the comment period for the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). The Corps will be receiving comments on the draft EIS and the Proposed Project until February 17, 2006.
Since the publication of the draft EIS, a number of minor changes in the acreage of impacts have been identified and are reflected in the revised permit drawings (click here to view). The acreage of open waters that would be dredged and backfilled has decreased from 54.5 acres to 53.7 acres, the acreage of berth and turning basin has increased from 88.1 acres to 88.2 acres, and the acreage of tidal marsh impacts has increased from 10.4 acres to 10.5 acres.
The Corps is currently reviewing comments received earlier in the comment period and invites those members of the public who have not yet had an opportunity to comment on the draft EIS, or those who have new statements, questions, or information, to comment at this time.
